That being said, you also want to be optimistic. When youset realistic goals, you go the extra mile to make sure you challenge yourselfto achieve more than you ever thought possible. Reach for the stars and maybeyou'll get one.
2. Be realistic but optimistic
Your goals are for you and only you.
When setting your fitness goals, be realistic about what youcan achieve. That doesn't mean you're setting the bar low. It means settingyour limits, understanding your story, and choosing milestones that you canactually achieve.
That being said, you also want to be optimistic. When youset realistic goals, you go the extra mile to make sure you challenge yourselfto achieve more than you ever thought possible.

3. Break your long-term goal intomicro-goals
By setting micro goals, or smaller goals that build on yourlong-term goals, you can achieve smaller milestones and track your progress ina realistic and measurable way.
For example, if you want to lose 20 pounds over the nextyear, your microgoals should break that number down into smaller tasks. Afterthree months, you may want to lose five pounds just to get started. Then afterthe next three you might want to raise and lose 10, and so on.

These microgoals keep you on track and force you to lookahead for measurable results.
4. Start Small: Aim for one goal at atime
Once you've determined your microgoals, attack them one byone.
When you reach your first microgoal after three months,focus on it. When you reach that goal, celebrate it like your life depends onit! Every milestone is a milestone in this process and should be celebrated andcherished along the way. At every stage, I like to take the approach of an eliteathlete.
