If you produce excess energy, you can sell that energy back to the grid at a profit. From 2008 to 2019, you could do this with the government feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme. After the FIT closed, it was replaced by the Smart Export Guarantee (see the Ofgem website for more information). Note that Smart Export Guarantee only offers subsidies to renewable energy producers.
