In the U.S. copper scrap is accepted by buyers from the public at $1.30 - $1.80 a pound, scrap copper prices - at $3 a pound. Aluminum scrap is cheaper, ranging from 45 to 65 cents, but a few years ago it was being accepted by scrap yards for as little as 10 to 12 cents a pound. Generally, the best way to get the best prices for copper scrap per pound is to clean the metal before you turn it in to a collection point or dealer. By doing this, you will save the dealer a lot of work, so he will usually be willing to pay a little more. Before you clean copper, make sure first that it is pure copper and not a mixture or coated copper. In the case of blend, you run the risk of scraping the metal. If the copper is pure, there is no such risk.
