The Singapore Ministry of Education introduced a new PSLE scoring system, moving away from the traditional T-score method. This change was made to provide a more balanced and less stressful way of assessing students. The updated system uses Achievement Levels (AL) from AL 1 to AL 8 to grade students in four subjects: English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics, and Science.

Under this new PSLE scoring system, students receive an individual PSLE AL score for each subject, where AL 1 is the highest and AL 8 is the lowest. The total score is the sum of these individual ALs across all subjects. This new approach focuses on each student’s performance without the intense pressure of the old system, offering a more holistic assessment that influences secondary school placements based on personal achievements rather than competition.
