Dear COTK owner(s) (not GM),
I am an old player of COTK, I started playing in December 2013 in S2, and I always been a huge fan of this game. I really want to appreciate you for making this amazing game, which give online strategy game a new era.
But infortunately, now I am seeing this game getting less and less people playing. I have been playing in the new s68 and also getting back to some old servers just to find out that there were only a few people playing this game now.
Maybe you don't realize somethings that made this game getting abandoned by the fans, and I would like to give you some inputs on how to get the players back.
I've been actively playing in like more than 10 servers from s3 to s68, in these 3 years, so I can say I know a lot. And these are the factors that made a lot of players quit:
1. TIME. This game has becoming more and more time consuming. Back at the time when we don't have mining (dispatch, harvest, snatch), people already complain about 3 times country war per day. People who has to work or go to school. We usually joke around saying that we don't eat, don't sleep, and don't even shit to play this game. Yes, we can choose to not be there for the events, but then we feel that if we don't join every event, we would fall behind in level compare to other players, also some of us feel guilty for not being there for our comrades, especially the ones who has the resposibility for giving Official Orders. Features like Trial Tower or Crusade are fine, because we have the entire day to complete them, not just specific hours like country wars and mining.
SOLUTION: Reduce the country wars to once a day (at night time) and eliminate mining event. You can made a polling in forum and facebook, asking about players preference, but since most of the players who find this game too time consuming has already quit, I doubt they will be able to join the poll, hence the result will tend to skewed to the players who prefers current numbers of event. Another option is opening special servers with only 1 country war per day and without mining event.
2. The rewards from event are ridiculously stingy. Do you know that a lot of players don't have motivation to join the the country war because the rewards are too small? Then when only a few people joining country war, other players will feel this game has only few players playing then they also begin to become bored of this game. It's a butterfly effect. And then the luck in this game is also ridiculously low, frustating the players. If players can have better luck in summon, "try it out", refine, explore, etc, then players will be happy and this will make them stay and willing to pay more as they getting stronger. Frustrated players will leave this game sooner or later.
3. If you want to make more players to RC, then give more priviledge for VIP2 and 3. Most of the players only go for VIP1, but don't want to go up to VIP2. You should give better priviledge to entice players to go up to VIP2, and I think a intermediate world map move speed boost will do (a medium speed, not as fast as VIP5 move boost)
That is all I can say for now, as a businessman with 10 years of experience, I hope I can help giving some insight for this game, just because I love this game so much. Hope COTK will always be the best of all Three Kingdoms game.
