Can a laser pointer disable a security camera?

It is extremely difficult to deactivate a security camera with a laser pointer. Ordinary laser pointers lack the power to disable the sensor. In addition, to disable a camera sensor, one must exactly hit it head-on within around 5 metres (16 feet). However, lasers can damage the CCD (camera sensor) on your security camera.
