Sr Guard is an Easy fight and everyone should be at least that.   In your palace there are 3 versions of the symbols next to the buildings.  
1: A greyed out circle means no player owns it, you merely have to beat an NPC to take it over
2: A Half Black/Half Yellow Circle means there are one or 2 aides.  YOU CAN APPLY TO THESE.  
2b.  If you are JR or SR Guard you have to go to Rank->Title and click Resign before applying to any of these positions.
2C.  Aides receive exactly half of the bonus resources as the one who maintains the Title.
3: A Full Green Circle means all aide positions are filled.  You cannot apply. However if you feel you would be a more powerful fit, feel free to message the Owner of the Title
