Title: Academy Sports Faces Lawsuit

Mods, if this is not the correct place for this, please move it. I don't think it quite fits 'in the news', but it does foster a newsworthy 2A discussion.

Instead of suing the gun maker, these people are suing the retailer. A judge refused to dismiss the case.

"The lawsuit claims the Katy, Texas-based chain broke federal law when it sold the Sutherland Springs shooter a Ruger AR-556 with a high capacity magazine that is illegal in his state of residence. At the time, the shooter listed his address on a Firearms Transaction Record as being in Colorado Springs, Colorado."

It seems to me that this is just another excuse to get money the easy way.

I don't think the Academy is to blame for this situation, because as the commenter above said, people obsessed with killing wouldn't be stopped by the magazine capacity of a rifle. It's just another excuse to make someone guilty. The company will have to fight to prove its case and prove its innocence by giving up millions of dollars. Or admit guilt and compensate the families of the victims. The situation is very similar to when misfesance claims are made to frame a company director. More often than not, this is done on purpose to undermine credibility, and it seems to me that this case is no exception.
