According to the Study on Gazelle and High Growth Companies carried out by Informa D&B , these types of companies have accounted for 78% and 5% of the employees created between 2013 and 2016. Altogether, the 9,800  High Growth companies ( HG , their acronym in English) and the 648 Gazelles existing in Spain have created nearly 342,000 jobs in four years. The majority are permanent contracts, 61% in the case of the former and 64% in the case of the latter.

By definition, HG companies   are those that have increased their Email Data sales or number of employees by 20% annually in the last 3 years; If they have also been created since 2012, they are Gacela companies .

Catalonia and Madrid are the communities that concentrate the most HG companies   , 19% and 17% of the total each, and Gacela , 17% and 19% respectively. Regarding the region as a whole, the percentage of HG companies  is highest in the Balearic Islands, almost 18%, and in Murcia, Castilla La Mancha and Andalusia, all around 16%. Gazelles only exceed 1% in Andalusia, the Canary Islands, the Valencian Community and Murcia .

They are mostly young companies. Gazelle companies are by definition, since they must be less than five years old. Among the  HG  less than half, 44%, are over 20 years old, while this proportion is 60% in the comparison group.

If we compare the employment figures with those of companies that have maintained a turnover of more than 500,000 euros between 2013 and 2016, we find that, although employment increased in all of them,  27 jobs were created for each HG company, for each Gazelle , 26, while for the rest this number drops to 1 employee per company.

According to Nathalie Gianese , Research Director at Informa D&B : “Although operating results improve in all categories of companies studied between 2013 and 2016, the same does not happen with turnover. While in High Growth companies it rose by 24% on average and in Gazelles by 227%, for the rest, 63,200 companies in total, a decrease of 4% was recorded .

The results of the Gacela companies have grown by 864% and so have those of HG , although to a lesser extent , by 435%.

Within technology companies, 44% of HG companies  and 55% of Gazelles are dedicated to high-tech services. On the other hand, the Gacela  have less international activity, only 20% compared to 32% between those of HG  and the rest.

Of the companies analyzed in 2017, among the HG  companies, a little less than 2% have entered into bankruptcy proceedings, a percentage that rises to 4% among the Gacela and remains at almost 3% for the rest.
