Average water/electric/ gas bill? (Middlesex: apartment, appliances, house) ...

Boyfriend has been complaining that all of the bills are too high, so I'm wondering if he's right. We live in Middlesex County. What are the average bills like for a small house with five people?

For us, the biggest hits were heating and electric, especially in winter when the heat runs constantly. Swapping out older bulbs and getting a smart thermostat actually helped a bit.
Also, if your appliances are gas instead of electric, that can make a big difference.
