If you thought that a 37 minute Elden Ring Runes speedrun was the fastest time ever recorded for the latest Souls-like from FromSoftware, think again. The fast time was knocked out of the water by a run that took less than 30 minutes to complete, which has my head spinning with jealousy. What's especially wild about this new time, however, is that it was run by noted Souls speedrunner Distortion2. The same person who destroyed Demon's Souls on PS5 in less than 20 minutes, and also posted that insane 37 minutes Elden Run speedrun.

It's important to note this was the fifth time that Distortion2 has posted a "Any percent" speedrun, which was posted on YouTube with the only goal was to finish the game as fast as they could. Distortion2 has been grinding away at FromSoft's action game since it was released on February 25. Their most recent time was 28 minutes and 59 seconds, which beats the earlier world record. It's insane!

This run was less than 30 minutes. Distortion2 cautiously used the wrong glitch for warp, which causes you to be spawned at a different, safer location after you save and close the Elden Ring game. After selecting the Samurai in addition to the Fanged Imp Ashes keepsake, a summon that calls forth two imp spirits that aid in combat, Distortion2 started the run by jumping off a rock to avoid the mandatory death of an opponent known as the Grafted Scion boss at the beginning. From there, it's a pretty typical speedrun, distortion2 weaving from Limgrave up to the Gatefront Site of Grace and unlocking Torrent the horse. Sometimes, it's using the wrong warp glitch to reset hostile enemies and then return to the closest Site of Grace for safer travel. With the ethereal stead, Distortion2 moved around across the Lands Between, hitting some resting spots, but ignoring all other things, including good items and hard-to-beat bosses.

Distortion2 used The Four Belfries, an area in Liurnia of the Lakes where it is possible to move around the map rapidly and the final half of the route consisted of an endless amount of platforming in treacherous places, such as the Crumbling Farum Azula or Volcano Manor. This was an effective route, as demonstrated by Distortion2's sub-30-minute time.

Its YouTube page is worth a visit however, just to see how they get quicker with each upload. They are the Souls speedrunning community tends to have specific categories that have specific conditions to help the competition each of which is documented on Speedrun.com however, Elden Ring doesn't have any specific requirements as of yet. The leaderboards will not be accessible on the website on March 18 therefore Distortion2's newest speedrun could not be the most efficient speedrun in the world. But until the leaderboards unlock and scores are released below 30 minutes is the speed to beat, and Distortion2 appears to have the record for the most runs moment.

Meanwhile, I'm not even yet done in Elden Ring! I mean, I haven't yet defeated the pseudo-second major boss Godrick the Grafted, and I've just been combing across the Lands Between for gear and runes, a testament to the sheer amount of discovery FromSoft has incorporated into their game. The experience of getting lost in Limgrave is one of my favourite things about Elden Ring, but I enjoy watching players go through the action-RPG like it's nothing. It gives me hope that in a year or two I'll be able to outdo Elden Ring myself.

The speedruns are slipping out of hand right now. A person beat the game in just two hours and didn't die. Someone else had a runtime of a little under an hour. What's next, someone hitting buy Elden Ring Runes score in less than 20 minutes? Perhaps another player beat the game without a mask? Are the people who speedrun shiver? I don't know, but I'm totally in it for it.
