I used to have the perfume bottles that you need to plug into a socket, but after many years I just don't smell it anymore.
Not that the scent should be overwhelming but at least it has to be noticeable when I walk into the room, like, "hm, smells nice in here".
And that's why I've changed to scented candles.

The first one I bought was an instant success: yankee candle ocean air. The names of the different types are nonsensical because you don't really want your house to smell like an ocean.
I went back to the store and suddenly I felt the craving to test all the different scents and so I hastily filled my basket with approx 25 small wax melts (after all they were just samples) only to nearly pass out when the woman at the checkout presented me the bill of 83 Euro. Suddenly I didn't feel so greedy anymore but I bought them anyway.

They all smell fantastic and it's very addictive to sniff at the perfumed wax before I light it, it makes me feel euphoric and all the bad stuff in the world seems to disappear.

My other favourites so far are Soft Blanket, Lilac Blossoms, Warm Cashmere (!) and Midnight Jasmine, but that's also because they give off the scent more effectively. I'm currently burning a Lakefront Lodge which is very lovely but I hardly notice it, seems like a waste of money.
The ones with vanilla and roses as the main ingredient are my least favourites.

What are your favourites? There are so many, and so many brands.

Someone gave us some scented homemade soaps a few years ago, Cedar-Amber -- ironic, because the dining room is lined with amber-colored cedar paneling. And that's where the package of soaps sits to this day: in the dining room, the loveliest area of the house.

I had the same issue with most scented candles, especially anything with synthetic fragrances. What helped me was switching to an asian incense burner with natural resins or herbs instead—way less irritating for my sinuses. Some of those fragrances are calming without being overpowering, and I’ve had fewer reactions since making the change. Just need to check the ingredients to make sure it’s all-natural.
