Chinese New Year, known in modern Chinese as the "Spring Festival" (simplified Chinese 春节; traditional Chinese 春節; Pinyin: Chūn Jié) in Mainland China, is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between 21 January and 20 February. In 2017, the first day of the Chinese New Year is on Saturday, 28 January, initiating the year of the Rooster.
Here in Indonesia we called it Imlek too.
Happy Chinese New Year

Chinese new year, also known as the Spring Festival is an important event in Chinese tradition. The arrangement of the calendar is different with that of the common calendar, as it is based on the lunar calendar, making its occurence an ever changing date in terms of the common calendar. The evening before is another highlight, and is often celebrated by families gathering together for a reunion annual dinner. There are a lot of traditions concerning Chinese New Year, such as married couples giving red envelopes, and lighting firecrackers.
Not only in China, Chinese New Year is also a celebrated occasion in other countries, such as Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, etc.

Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival in China, is China's most important traditional festival. It is also the most important celebration for families, and a week of official public holiday. The main two reasons for the festival are:
  • To celebrate a year of hard work, have a good rest, and relax with family
  • To wish for a lucky and prosperous coming year

Chinese people believe that a good start to the year will lead to a lucky year. Chinese traditionally celebrated the start of a new year of farm work, and wished for a good harvest (when most were farmers). This has now evolved to celebrating the start of a new business year and wishing for profits and success in various vocations.

The main traditional celebrations of the festival include eating reunion dinner with family, giving red envelopes, firecrackers, new clothes, and decorations. More modern celebrations include watching the CCTV Gala, instant message greetings, and cyber money gifts.

Chinese New Year is a time for families to be together. Wherever they are, people come home to celebrate the festival with their families.

The New Year's Eve dinner is called "reunion dinner", and is believed to be the most important meal of the year. Big families of several generations sit around round tables and enjoy the food and time together.

Chinese New Year also know as Lunar New Year, in chinese it can be said as 春节, 华人新年 or 农历新年.
It is a traditional chinese festival mainly from China.

About a week before Chinese New Year, families will thoroughly cleanse the house to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck.
On Chinese New Year eve, families and relatives will gather to eat together which is known as Reunion Dinner(团圆饭). It is a very important part of Chinese New Year.
On Chinese New Year, married couples will gift who are unmarried Red Packets(红包) as a blessing for the year ahead. The amount of money contained in the envelope usually ends with an even digit, in accordance with Chinese beliefs.

Anyway, Happy Chinese/Lunar New Year to all and happy holidays.

It is the time of year again. A time where streets are lit up with bright flamboyant lights, sounds of crackling fireworks can be heard far away, smells of freshly baked moon cakes play with our nostrils, and the laughter of joyful people fill the air. It’s the Chinese New Year! This is a time where families enjoying the warm gathering and all worries and sorrows are left behind. Each year represents a different animal of the Chinese Zodiac and this New Year is the year of the Rooster.

In indonesia we called Chinese new year as "Imlek". Most of the chinese people will celebrate this day as the moment to stick among the family. For me this is the special day because i can go back to my hometown and meet all of my family. In palembang, this event will be celebrate so well..people decorate the home, street and temple. Drunk together, eat together..Happy Chinese New Year all. Hope the new year bring us more luck, more happy, and more gold on COTK...
