What’s different in WoW Classic Season of Mastery?

Welcome to Wowhead's guide for Season of Mastery, a fresh start for Vanilla-Classic players! Season of Mastery is a 12-month content cycle where players start out brand new at level 1 on a new server, completely resetting WoW Classic's content into a compressed release cycle. This will feature several quality of life changes, increased experience rates, more challenging raids, and adjustments to curtail powerleveling and boosting. It also introduces the Soul of Iron debuff for those who wish to take on a Hardcore challenge.

Season of Mastery takes the original Vanilla WoW experience and makes a few tweaks, guided by the framework of the original Classic run. The 6 content phases remain identical to the original Classic servers, with content rolling out in the same order. However, instead of a loosely-defined living schedule, the Season of Mastery run is planned for a 12-month total cadence, with each of the 6 phases being two months on that calendar.

In addition to these changes, Meeting Stones on Season of Mastery servers will instead be replaced with Summoning Stones. This should make it easier for groups to get people to dungeons without forcing the Warlock to show up and farm soul shards. There’s also going to be a welcome change to herbalism and mining nodes, with increased spawns for both to make it easier for people blazing their way to 60 to keep their gathering professions current.

To create a character and play WoW Classic Season of Mastery, you will need to download and install the client first.

    Open the Battle.net desktop app and select World of Warcraft in the game selection menu.
    Select World of Warcraft Classic. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second dropdown for Account. In that column, select the active account you want to play on.
    Click the Install button. You’ll see an installation progress bar that will show you when the installation is available to play.
    Once the installation is complete, click the Play button.
