[size=13.3333px]Last year we transitioned from lifelong apartment dwellers to home owners. There are four of us plus a baby. Boyfriend has been complaining that all of the bills are too high, so I'm wondering if he's right. We live in Middlesex County. What are the average bills like for a small house with five people?

For us, the biggest hits were heating and electric, especially in winter when the heat runs constantly. Swapping out older bulbs and getting a smart thermostat actually helped a bit.
Also, if your appliances are gas instead of electric, that can make a big difference.
We ended up switching energy providers to save a little. I found this Octopus referral code that got us £50 credit, so it was worth trying. The rates were better than what we had, and it took the edge off for a few months.
