Carrier Start
The fighter began his MMA sports career as a lightweight fighter, when he was about 175 cm tall and weighed about 66 kg. In the first serious fight, which took place in 2007 (the athlete was then 19 years old) at the Ring of Truth 6 tournament, Conor technically knocked out Ciaran Campbell in the first 5 minutes and became the winner. A year later, at the Cage of Truth tournament, the young athlete defeated Gary Morris, at the Cage Rage Championship – Mo Taylor, and defeated Paddy Doherty and Mike Wood by clean knockout. Conor’s first fights included both winning and losing fights. In 2008, McGregor was defeated by Lithuanian athlete Artemy Sitenkov, and a few years later by his compatriot Joseph Duffy.
The main problem of the Irishman at that time was not fighting technique, but financial difficulties. At one point, Conor McGregor worked as a plumber, like his father, and decided to leave the sport aside. However, shortly after watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship 2009, he began to train hard again. In 2012, McGregor's statistics were 10 wins and 2 losses. The athlete decided to move to featherweight and in just 2 fights became the leader of Cage Warriors. Then he returned to the lightweight category and took the championship title from Ivan Buchinger, becoming the current champion in two weights at once.
