So as far as I understood, formula for final attack is as follows:

attribute+gem+polish+(attribute+(attribute+gem)*gem%) = final attack effect

Where:

Atribute - is how much attack your current lvl of armament gives
Polish - how much attack polish gives
Gem - how much attack gem adds
Gem% - the percentage effect of gem

From this formula it follows that lvl of armament can be more important than lvl of your polish at earlier stages of game, since gems have no percentage effect on polish. Also if you calculate how the cost of armaments and polish in terms of iron, it will work out as lvling armaments is cheaper.

Good point.
But I think you has calculated attibute twice.
attribute + polish (+ attribute*gem%+gem)=final attack effect.
