The new Norrath is not made of polygons but voxels. Once upon a time, this technology was considered incredibly promising: in the late nineties, Outcast, Vangers, Alpha Centauri, Delta Force 2, and many more were grown on voxels. However, gradually voxel engines died out because the new graphics cards were not designed to handle "volumetric pixels" (these are voxels), and the whole load was on the processor. And the burden is heavy: while a polygonal model can be described as a set of vertices, a voxel model is a giant array of three-dimensional "bricks. That's why you should use Minecraft.buzz |
